OUR MISSION

STEAMotype strives to inspire appreciation of and engagement in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) through art.

​

By hosting weekly lettering challenges on Instagram, STEAMotype provides a platform for people, including those without STEM backgrounds, to engage in STEM in an accessible, fun, and shareable manner.


We hope this will bring STEM content into the everyday life of our audience, especially those who do not usually seek out this content, and build an inclusive community.

OUR APPROACH

We encourage everyone to engage in STEM and strive to make STEM content accessible. And of course, we want everyone involved, including our team and our audience, to have fun, make new connections, and enjoy being part of our community!

MAKE STEM ACCESSIBLE & RELATABLE

  • Using Instagram as our main platform, we want to increase our audience’s exposure to STEM at an everyday level.

  • We make sure our content is relevant, unbiased, and easy to understand.

  • We celebrate the heroes & heroines in STEM fields, especially those from underrepresented groups, who can be our role models for pursuing interests/careers in STEM-related fields.

USE ART & STORYTELLING AS OUR MEDIA

  • Interesting visuals can help captivate our audience, especially those who may not be seeking for STEM content.

  • Art is expressive and emotional, adds a human touch to our work, and can be used to introduce the story we are telling. Coupled with storytelling, it can help create a connection with our audience and make the experience more memorable.

  • Through these media, we remind people that STEM is not cold and faceless–it’s done by curious, passionate, and creative people who also love art!

BUILD A COMMUNITY

  • Through our letter challenges, we encourage everyone, experts and the general public alike, to contribute to our content and engage in discussions.

  • Experts: we encourage them to share their knowledge and understand the general public’s perspective.

  • Public: we invite them to the conversation, encourage them to seek reliable information, remind them that the other side also consists of real people with good intentions.

  • We also provide opportunities for interdisciplinary interactions and collaborations.

  • We hope our approach will help connect the scientific community and the general public, making sure both sides are heard.
